No, it definitely is the most anticipated console release of 2026 though as Valve is entering the sort of home console space with its Steam machine and its Steam frame and its new Steam controller as well which are all meant to be out within early 2026, Valve has instead though recently moved the goalpost from that being Q1 2026 to the first half of 2026 and you can probably guess as to why, while AMD's Lisa Su said Valve was on track to begin shipping its AMD powered Steam machines earlier this year, Valve has instead countered that with an FAQ update on Steam via The Verge which says that they are targeting the first half, our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed but we have a lot of work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both those things can change, the reason for this you can probably guess is due to things like worldwide shortages of things like RAM, cost increases and things that as well could really really impact the Steam machines launch as it tries to nail down that pricing and that launch date as Valve has said, when we announced these products in November Valve says we plan on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now but the memory and storage shortages you've likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then, the limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing, so while AMD probably has a tighter lid on things like its own hardware and knows that it's sent off chipsets to Valve to make however many Steam machines they're planning on making and selling, on the flip side Valve has a lot of decision making to do in terms of pricing this console and in terms of when it's going to release this console, does it try and wait for things to calm down and push the release date back a bit or does it just say they're going to do it right now but then maybe have to face a price increase because if you try and look for anything from RAM to GPUs to storage today you're going to be paying a premium compared to what you were paying this time last year even as the AI industry has meant that RAM has been increasingly hard to find and has gone up in price rapidly, seriously you're now paying near GPU prices for some sticks of RAM when they used to be one of the cheapest things you could get in buying your PC, so this is a serious problem for a lot of consumers and it's something that Valve is more than aware of and is worrying whether it's going to maybe impact that price because if Valve puts the Steam machine at too high of a price point and no one buys it then again we're seeing Valve once more fail to bring in its new era into the console market."
