"Guys, we are hitting season four now. We have been, or you've been, with these characters for a very long time, both in the live-streamed D&D show and the animated show. How do you think your relationships with your characters has developed over the course of that sort of, that long journey that is... I was talking to some of the cast before and they were like, it's a real gift because not everyone gets to go that long with a certain character. How have you found that gift and how has it sort of helped you, I guess, develop this character even further when you go back for the retelling of the story?
Boy, at this point, I don't know. I don't know about you guys. No, I mean, like, I don't even think they're characters anymore at this point. Like, we've lived with them so long that they're almost like real, real people that we know. I think we can all, we all know how the characters talk. And as evidenced on stage, sometimes when we play our live plays stuff, we slip, we have to change characters and stuff. And within three words of hearing someone change into a character, one of the Vox Machina characters, you know exactly who they're playing. And it's like seeing and hearing an old friend. So I think our relationship has just changed because with the characters, because we know we know them inside and out, possibly as as well as or better than some of our real life friends."

"Yeah, it's right that, you know, many times we get acting roles and you're with something a day, a couple of weeks, maybe a handful of months. But we've been with these characters really for like 15-ish years. So what started off as a caricature or just a very shallow, like, for funsies role for one night only is now one of the longest living roles of our lives. In fact, we know each other's voices so well that we slip into impressions of each other all the time. It really feels like Samsung that they're up and walking and they've just, they're in the world and exist regardless."

"And we've gotten to see them through so many aspects of their lives, you know, like as we've played through the different campaigns, the time jumps that have happened and we've gotten to go back to these characters 20 years after, 30 years after and see them at different stages. It just lets you see a full total picture of their life. And it's it's it makes it so much more fun to be able to go back in this instance, come back to their their youthful presence and get to be that again."

"Yeah, I sometimes wake up and wondering how it is that Percy has their shit together way more than I do at this point. Really, it really feels inappropriate.
Yeah, it's it's it's been it's been something that people have watched and sort of like grown along with as well. And in that way, it's almost odd because it's the the events in a way are set in stone, but whether fans are entirely new with the animated series or whether they've watched it, they're coming back just as enthusiastic. What do you think makes the the animated show sort of excite pre existing fans in a way that makes them come back even though they know what's going to happen? And some of it some of it's not great, but some of it's a tremendous like in terms of character and some of it it's like, you know, you guys go through some heavy stuff in in the shows."

"Well, they don't know exactly. I think at first they know that they don't entirely know what's going to happen because we like to surprise them. Yeah, yeah. But tragedy feels good. There's a reason it's it was it was there was tragedy and comedy where the they were the beginning of, you know, English speaking theater, which we shared pain is phenomenal."

"Build them up to bring them down and then build back up again.
And I guess something sort of jumping off from that is that back in the original campaign, there's only really Matt who knows everything that's going to go on. And even then, it's sort of he didn't know everything because you guys can react in different ways and things like that. How does the context, I guess, of knowing when you're redoing sort of key scenes and things like that, does that add anything to the performance? You look at it from a different way. Do you try and do something different maybe with the character?
Well, the playing at the table for the long campaign was like the greatest rehearsal or writer's room in history."

"Right. We had the freedom because it's just a game to take massive swings.
And sometimes you fall on our face, but sometimes, you know, you'd hit a home run or have absolute magic happen at the table.
We didn't know where we're going or what we were doing."

"And sometimes there were shopping episodes.
But with the animated series, we get to look back on that long winding road and pick up the gems that were most important from that journey and boil things down to a breathtakingly aced, streamlined version of the story."

"So it's like the best of moments.
Yeah, we can look at the moments where we veered off and went to different places and find the most streamlined path to get to the same place and make it mean sometimes more because we get to see stronger, intimate moments in between."

"Yeah, I think everyone in life has that feeling of like, oh, I wish I had said this.
That would have been really cool.
Well, now we get to do that."

"We get to go back and be like, yeah, I do get I did.
That is what I said.
I said that exact thing.
And it was awesome.
You get to wing your shower arguments."

"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Are there any things are there any sort of like moments that you wish could have been put in just for like pure, you know, maybe you wish there was just a pure shopping episode or something like that from the original campaign?
I loved the pub crawl episode that we did from the original campaign, but I think it wouldn't have translated well because it really relied on how frustrated Matt Mercer was on having to come up with a bunch of pubs, which was really all I wanted to see was watch him slowly have to like come up with a bunch of names for pubs."

"I wouldn't have been mad if I'm sorry, Telsa.
No, go ahead. Go ahead.
I wouldn't have been mad if Vox Machina needed to disguise themselves as cows for a moment."

"That's true.
I understand why it's not there, but I wouldn't have been mad about it if it was.
Hmm. Yeah, I would have enjoyed seeing Keyleth actually become a goldfish."

"But again, certain moments don't translate the same way.
So, yeah, yeah, I would have.
I mean, this season, especially, I would have.
Well, I don't want to spoil it, but there's a there's a Terry and barfing scene."

"I wish we could have found a place for it might not make the cut.
Well, we'll wait and see.
People will have to wait and see, I guess."

"And it was also recently announced that not only, you know, we know that we're getting more Vox Machina later down the line, but we're also getting more Mighty Nein, I believe, was announced fairly recently.
What do you think?
What makes you go excited to go back to the world of Mighty Nein versus Vox Machina?
And how do they sort of complement each other?
Well, I think it's a really good question."

"Vox Machina.
And how do they sort of complement each other, I guess, when you're going back to these things?
They're a different family of people."

"So different.
Personally, I like being an idiot.
It's so much fun to not have any filter.
It actually has so much of a filter."

"She thinks about everything she's going to say, but it's nice to have a character that that doesn't does not at all.
I love that the Mighty Nein has so much.
It's not entirely, but it has a lot of spy thriller energy to it, and I love living in that in that genre."

"Yeah, it's smaller.
The world is smaller, and I like being in that in that in like a smaller space rather than, you know, fighting the dragons and, you know, being avatars of gods and doing all of this, this big stuff."

"I like being just on the ground for a lot of it.
Yeah, I mean, it's it's as you say, even though the world is small, it still feels very impactful.
And you guys have made such an impact with this that we see big guest stars coming in all the time."

"Wayne Brady, I got to speak to earlier today.
Lovely, lovely guy.
But you also recently announced Andy Serkis.
How did that come about?
We won't spoil anything about who he's playing or anything like that."

"But how did that come about in terms of getting him on board for?
Boy, oh, boy, we just asked and he did it.
I can't believe you said yes.
We'll wrap it up. Yeah."

"We had a long list of of actors that we were considering for the role, and he was the top of it.
So we always start with number one and work our way down.
And we started with him, had a great conversation with his agency and sent him scripts, sent him clips from the show."

"And he came back and said he they they said he loves it.
He loves the show.
He loves the world.
And there's one thing that's really great about Andy Serkis is he gets world building."

"He understands that this isn't just a one off show.
It's not just a flash in the pan.
This is based in a universe and a fandom that people really care about and that the creators really care about."

"And I think that's what he responded to most was becoming part of another world.
He's part of Planet of the Apes and Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and all of these amazing universes.
And now he's part of the world of Exandria."

"It's incredible.
And directs, too.
I mean, like we all know him for his iconic roles, but he is as much of a storyteller as we are."

"So we fit right in.
There's one quick, perhaps final question, then, as we move on to season five of Vox Machina, we know that that will be the wrap up of the culmination of the epic main story."

"But we also know that you guys have done one offs, things like that in the future.
Are there any plans at the minute?
Or would you like to perhaps make things like special episodes and returns?
Definitely."

"I want more Darrington Brigade in any way, shape or form.
I can get it.
Full spin off.
We had a moment of Christmas special for 30 seconds back at the very beginning of this is we should do a Christmas special."

"And then we learned how making shows work and went, that's no, maybe not.
I mean, I mean, we've talked about it before, but I think, you know, doing Calamity would be a phenomenal story to to show.
And it's it's standalone, but it also has so much behind it."

"It it's a beautiful piece of storytelling. Yeah.
Perfect. So I'm being told, yeah, wrap.
Thank you so much for your time, guys.
It's been a pleasure. Thanks, Alex."

"Thanks, Alex. Thank you."
