"Hello everyone and welcome back to another GRTV News. Today we're going to be touching a little bit on Sony and a little bit on PlayStation because the CEO of Sony has come out and basically given a little bit of an update on what's the situation surrounding the PlayStation 6. Long story short, don't hold your breath on the console. Don't hold your breath on it. It could be a little bit away still. Could be quite some time before we see this device. But anyway, let's take a look and see what's happening. So yeah, not even Sony knows when the PlayStation 6 will launch yet. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki has mentioned the console doesn't yet have a fixed date."
"So yeah, no one knows when the next generation of console hardware will make its arrival, but there are many who are plotting 2027 or 2028 to be the arrival years. The reason is console generations tend to last seven to eight years, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S launched in late 2020, meaning this November will be the sixth anniversary of each device. However, the issue that plagues the upcoming systems revolve around the ongoing hardware shortage and how RAM and memory prices are currently getting higher by the day, meaning the next console systems are expected to be quite costly to offset this inflation. But would a console priced at around $1000 even be enticing to the majority of fans, especially since the era of exclusive games is far less of a factor than it used to be? The point is, while there is good logic behind the 2027 and 2028 launch timeline for the PS6 and whatever Project Helix will ultimately be known as, nothing firm has been locked in yet, something even Sony's CEO wants people to be wary about. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki was credited to have said the company still hasn't fixed a date for PS6's launch. Totoki also touched slightly, or lightly sorry, on the ongoing component shortage by noting we need to take some action as otherwise we cannot survive in this landscape. Long story short, not even Sony has a firm date in mind for when the PlayStation 6 will arrive so maybe it's best to stop holding your breath from the console's launch at least for a few more months."
"It does seem as though the hardware crisis, particularly the demands that are being placed on memory and RAM, with AI data centres gobbling up so many of these components for the consumer market, they're becoming incredibly costly and pricely. It does seem like this is going to have a serious effect on the next generation of hardware. At the moment in time, I mean, Theoretically, they could launch a PlayStation 6 and again, whatever the Xbox's successor will officially be called, they could launch them relatively soon. The problem is if you launch them in this market, they're going to be incredibly expensive. And if they launch incredibly expensive, are they going to take off? And if they don't take off, how are you going to then sort of reboot it when the when slash if the hardware prices eventually normalize and return to sort of more plausible values? Um... If they launched it soon, you'd have to say that these devices would be costing upwards of $1,000. You know, 700, 800 plus pounds probably is a baseline with the way that things are going. Meaning if things did stabilize, they'd be due a significant drop in cost. But would we then see Sony and Microsoft, for example, cutting 200 pounds, $200 from the cost of these devices Context, Context, Context, Context, Context, Figures out a way to make memory and RAM available to the masses at affordable rates because right now it's just simply it's just it doesn't work and While it's unclear whether there will ever be an AI crash and people moving away from this huge surge in demand for AI, you have to say that this isn't sustainable and we can't keep going forward like this with an entire region of technology that's incredibly important to the way that computer systems are set up around the entire world being simply inaccessible to the majority of, well it's not even just consumers, it's to a lot of markets really. The immense wealth of AI is just eclipsing it all right now. But again, the point is, Sony doesn't know when the PlayStation 6 is coming out. And if they don't know when the PlayStation 6 is coming out, it means they probably don't know when they're going to reveal it. Because they're not going to show off a console without any plans to officially get it out there in good time. So, I would assume that what Sony CEO has said here, it aligns with the very earliest of 2028 launch for the PlayStation 6."
"I don't think you're going to see this console revealed later this year. Maybe Xbox will take a swing, maybe because it's the 25th anniversary of Xbox they're going to reveal the official identity of Project Helix, because at the end of the day Microsoft has been far more transparent with their information about Xbox's successor than PlayStation has about PlayStation's successor, or PlayStation 5's successor."
"It's interesting nonetheless, but basically, as I said in the news piece, don't hold your breath on these consoles, because they could be quite a far way away as of at this moment.
