"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look and an exciting one because if you recall back in the day when foldables was just trying to start hitting the market, Samsung was among the very first and what they introduced was the idea of a candy bar shaped or sort of smartphone-esque shape that would then unfold into a small tablet. Now, 90% of manufacturers subsequently did the same thing, because they thought that what we wanted was a regular phone, so let's say 6.7-ish inches, that would then unfold into a tablet. Now, the flip phone also came, which says you can have a regular phone, which unfolds into half the footprint of a regular phone."
"But there are some out there that wanted to do things differently. The original Pixel Fold and Oppo also decided to do something different with one of their Find Ns.
But the point was that there is a middle way, if you think about it, because what if you want something that's smaller than a regular phone, but which still unfolds into a smaller regular tablet. Those two things exist, by the way, so I do think that there is merit in this kind of way of understanding it. Point being, this is the Samsung Galaxy C Fold 8, and it is a depends a little bit on the width, meaning that if you have to reach across it, it is still problematic. But the point is, it is short, it is tight, and it feels very compact in a pocket. Now, it'll fit straight into a shirt pocket, for instance, without sticking up over the edge of the shirt pocket. So, this stout form factor is smaller than your regular phone. but it unfolds into a small tablet regardless. So what does that mean? Well, that is 5.5 inches across from here, and then 7.6 inches across from here. So you get the best of both worlds. You have a small phone now, because a lot of people actually seem to want smaller phones now, and you have a larger phone instead of having a big phone that transforms into a bigger phone. that is just a fundamentally appealing idea, an attractive idea for a wider array of consumers. So what are you actually getting? Well 201 grams Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3 on the front and then Victus 2 on the back. There is an aluminium framing all around. It's IP48 dust and water resistant and should be among Samsung's like strongest foldables yet. And as I said, you have this 5.5 inch, 1248 by 1972 pixels here. That's an LTPO AMOLED 2X at 120 Hz. And then when you unfold, you get this small 7.6 inch unfolded tablet with a display peak of around 3000 nits peak brightness and with roughly the same specs. Obviously, it's a plastic coated display. Inside, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, up to 1TB storage and 16GB RAM. In terms of what it can do, it is very much at the top of the tree with other flagships from Samsung. Even though that there is a regular form factor version of this, which I believe is called the Ultra, which is just a lot less exciting, this regular C Fold 8 is just such a brand new bold step. Now back here, we are sacrificing a lens. So now we get double 50 megapixel lenses. So that's a standard wide at 50 megapixels and an ultra wide also at 50 megapixels. which I think is great because usually it kind of acts like a second class citizen, a citizen at like 12 megs or 10 even. but this is a full 50MP lens at 120 degrees, would have loved it to be a little bit wider. You get a 4800mAh battery in here, which I think is actually fine, it'll see you through a whole day. 45W wired, 20W wireless, which I think is great. Now, this hardware isn't flawless. There is no Qi 2.2, meaning that there is no PixelSnap equivalent or MagSafe equivalent magnetic charging array. Meaning that it won't stick to a MagSafe accessory, which I think is a big shame now. Google is showing us the way for Android to do the same thing. And obviously, there is no underscreen fingerprint sensor here. There is only facial recognition through the selfie camera and a side-mounted lock button integrated key where there is a fingerprint reader in there. And I just don't think it is as natural to grasp it and then ferociously press your finger against it. Plus, because it doesn't seem like it is Samsung's own, you know, underscreen fingerprint sensor technology, if your palms are sweaty, for instance, it won't unlock. So that's a problem, I would say. But still, what an amazing piece of kit, and what a fantastic way forward for Samsung to show us. This form factor, I believe, is the way forward for foldables. It is a way to give you something smaller, and bigger depending on how you transform it. And that is the way that it harmoniously combines with regular slab phones. Because if you want a regular slab that does something in between these two, then you get that. But if you want something that can do both on opposite ends of the spectrum, you get this.
